Default 5 People Die On The Dragon So far This Year

The Tail of the Dragon has claimed 5 lives so far this year. The last one wearing full protective gear for those folks that think that stuff will save you in single MC crashes. No matter what you are wearing you just can't ride above your skills and so many folks do on this road, seen it a thousand times there.

The feds have allocated funds to put a interstate highway from Savannah, Gerogia to Knoxville, Tn. The proposed route will cut directly thru US 129, effectively eliminating the dragon. No more dragon!

Actually that's not correct. I-3 is still only a "concept" highway and has much opposition. The bill the Fed's funded ($1.3M) in 2005 only covers a STUDY for the route of a proposed I-3 from Savannah to Knoxville. The funds for any highway would be billions as it cost $25 Million per mile to build a highway through mountains and have not been approved and even it approved it would take decades to complete such a highway from scratch.

Interesting that some of the medical responders are considering not responding to accidents on the Dragon.

I spent 3 days in that area a few weeks ago during a record breaking rain amount time period. Rode the Dragon on raining, wet roads, SLOWLY! Enjoying the what the view had to offer. Why go so damn fast you kill yourself? Its a site (not to mention a public road with speed limit) to SEE not RACE on.

If people want ride that like get on a race track. We have a local track here that allows anyone to come (and drive with others in their same riding skill level) and get track time.

I'm sorry for the all the families that have ever lost someone, including this particular accident. Slow down and reduce your risk.

Off Soap Box....

It took nearly 40 years to complete the 50 mile stretch of the Cherohala Skyway.

i don't see that putting an interstate thru that area will do much to change the Dragon. it likely will go under the interstate's overpasses. there has been a plan to build a Memphis to Atlanta interstate for over 10 years and not one piece of right of way has been bought. much of that route is nearly flat.

That is what I saw when I was there. Too many people treat it like a track and eventually will have an impact on those that just enjoy it for what it is.... A very pretty countryside with a very fun layout.

someone said to stay away from the yellow line when riding the dragon. The crotch rockets coming the other way, going too fast tend to drift over the line.

nice. So you can be riding safely and some bone head idiot runs into you from the other direction. You just can't win.
