I didn't think that could happen from a bike falling over. There are always small puddles of gas on the ground at stations and from now-on, I'll be super careful. Truly a freak accident and I wish him well/speedy recovery.

I think this is the true story
Two toddlers in the van were rescued by a store clerk and a bystander before the fire reached their car seats, Santangelo said.

The cause of the fire seems suspect to me, the bike fell over and ignited a puddle of gas from a previous customer? It's in Florida! how quick does gas evaporate, pretty friggin' fast, must have been a HUGE puddle

I hope he recovers fast also...I also don't see how you can dump a bike while parked and end up 50 to 60 percent of your body burned...I too think there has got to be more to this story.

I'm wondering if his own gas poured out when the bike fell over?

I am reminded of a guy I used to run around with years ago. always had this lil fire extiguisher bolted to his bike. It looked kind of silly. His story was that his bike caught fire before and he wanted to be prepared. I guess the stuff really happens!

Sounds like a Barney Fife story as far as I am concerned. Supposed to put the kick stand down when you park your bike and be careful around gasoline.

Glad the kids got out okay, and yes I hope the clumsy guy recovers quickly with minimal pain.

Need more press for the bystanders who saved the kids.
Also need results of a Breathalyzer for barney Fife.

The group had stopped at a Shell gas station in Marathon at about 3:30 p.m. to fill their tanks when Richard Ragali's motorcycle fell over on him and burst into flames, FHP spokesman Pat Santangelo said.

``There was a puddle of gas on the ground from a previous customer,'' he said. `When the bike fell, it ignited the gas on the ground, causing the motorcycle to catch on fire.''

I just shake my head and say "Hmmmm.' I won't say it can't happen, but never having "have my bike fall and ignite a puddle of gas at a gas pump."
I am somewhat suspect.
It didn't say whether the guy dropped his bike while it was running...which sparked the fire....or if it was instintanious combustion.
I have seen people smoking a cigarette,pumping gas...walk away.
So you drop a bike, and burn up a mini van? Got to be more to the story.

You just never know. Everyone has a story that nobody else is gonna believe unless they were there.

Dropping a bike with the cap off can do what he said. But it has to lay there a while.
Would take a lot of gas to get to the mini van.
Still need some spark though.

Where was the driver of the minivan??? (attendants and bystanders had to rescue the kids). If the driver were present, I'd bet she had plenty of time to simply "move the van". Hello? I smell fish!

Cops would never "cover up" for thier own, would they?

Still wanna see the breathalizer or urine test results.

Also, when a guy drops his bike, don't the rest of the group usually run up and get it off of him? They just stood there and looked at him?
