Default Texas Hill Country or Big Bend?

I was thinking about a fall ride down to Texas and was wondering what the best ride would be. The Hill Country area or Big Bend?

It depends on what you want out of your ride. If you are looking for trees changing and twisty roads, go for Hill Country. If you are looking for wildlife and landscapes and warmer weather, go for Big Bend. However if you choose Big Bend, you are very close to the Davis Mountains, so you can still get a little twisty.

It depends on what you are looking for.

If you just want time to yourself and a companion, Big Bend is excellent. Very few people actually visit the Big Bend area (fuel and food can be far apart). It is scenic, but nothing that is going to test your skills. There are a couple of nice mountain roads to ride along.

The hill country (Bandera through Leaky) has some excellent riding, a lot of tight twisty roads (three sisters, 335,336,337). Very scenic, but can be congested with bikes and sports cars on the weekend. You can find good food in just about every little town the above roads go through and most cater to the bikers.

They are both great places in Texas to ride, again it just depends on what you are looking for.

the Hill country is gorgeous and I recommend that. Either way, hollar at me when you decide to go if you want company. I'm on your way and can simply slip into formation.

Luckenbach is always a good stop going south. It's SE of Fredricksburg.
Nice ride just north of Fredricksburg called Willow City loop.
Keep heading southwest toward Kerrville-Ingram-Hunt area. Very nice country.
You can get anywhere in the Hill Country from there.
Also HW39W is an excellent ride, so is FM1340 out of Hunt.

hell yeah, if you decide on the hill country let me know. i am in san antonio, which is the gateway to the hill country. you'll be coming in from 35 and will probably wanna go through austin and into dripping springs. from there, you can pick a direction and hit it. there's gruene, johnson city, fredericksburg, luchenbach, kerrville, leaky, utopia, bandera, etc, etc, etc!

we can all hook up and do a nice ride!

then again....big bend is a very nice ride, too...

I've been to both, and I'll take the Hill Country any time over the Big Bend!

Big Bend - Rugged, desert, wide open country, small mountains. Sparse population.

Hill Country - Green, vegetation, great roads, towns, food, attractions, beautiful hills and valleys, excellent riding.

What do you want....

I love Fredricksburg and I have a picture of the old Luckenbach post office on my office wall, a little piece of home in Mississippi. If I ever win the lottery, I am buying a place on Lake Travis.

Up here, they actually think that UT refers to Tennessee!
