Dynas are big sportsters

If you liked the touring platform, the "short trip" excuse doesn't really cut it. It's as nimble, if not more so, than the other platforms

Yeah, dude, I wouldn’t put a whole lot of credence into what a salesman tells you. They may screen the dudes for basic knowledge or something, but my dealer has gone through about two dozen salesmen in the last year. They don’t make much money it seems and I know from talking to some of them that some don’t know much more than I do about the bikes. I read this site every freakin day though – so, that doesn’t mean they don’t know anything.
I had a Nighster and I can tell you that my Street Bob is a whole lot more than a ‘big Sportster.’ No doubt they are lighter and more nimble than the other Big Twins, but that’s really a big plus in my book. They’ve got the same motor as the rest of the Big Twins (save the counterbalancer of the ‘b’ models)……. My Street Bob is a far more substantial machine than my Nightster. All around. The Nightster was a fun bike no doubt, but I would be far more confident in my ability to really put on some serious miles on my Street Bob. It cruises that much better on the highway.
I’m with the guys that are tellin’ ya to go ride a few and see what suits you. Check out the idiosyncrasies of the various bikes……
As far as Dynas being for small guys……that’s not true. The deal is, from what I understand, Wide Glides have their forwards mounted on the outside of the frame and Softails have theirs on the inside of the frame – giving you more room (or further reach) on a Wide Glide. You can probably make either work either way with aftermarket parts. I suppose this applies to any Dyna with forwards put on. I have to admit that a salesman pointed this out to me when I told them the Wide Glide was my favorite bike, but that I couldn’t reach the controls.

Yah...but you won't like the looks of the price difference when compared to a dyna

The dealer is an idiot. Here is a link with side by side on any Harley you want to compare. Glad to see that you need to pass a test of knowledge to become a dealer. pfft.
