Tire wear
I know there are other posts about this but i wanted to know what everybody thinks.
I own a 04 deuce and have ten thousand miles on it. My tires are worn out. Front tire is worn, rear tire is worn to the wear indicator.
I was expecting 15,000 miles on a set of tires. My brother in law owns a 04 wide glide and his tires look brand new after 8000 miles. WTF.
The only thing i can think of is i ride alot of back roads and do alot of turns. He does mostly putting around in city traffic bar hopping.
Regardless of how i ride, i was expecting 15000 miles on a set the way i ride and taking it easy about twenty.
I never do burnouts.
Is this normal?
Would a metzaler tire really wear better than stock like they say or maybe a avon?
I want a tire that wears better and still has good all around grip.

RE: Tire wear
Tires wear differently for different riders. I have 6000 miles on my Dyna and the tires are pretty much shot. Just ordered new Metzelers for it. My best friend rides a FXST and he regularly gets 9000-10000 miles out of his tires. We ride exactly alike, but no matter what kind of bike I own, my tires just wear out fast. Metzelers are great tires. Get them and you'll be happy.

I'd say if you got 10,000 miles you're getting more life out of your tires than the average guy is and you should be happy.

Motorcycle tires are a softer compound than automobile tires. The softer compound tires wear faster than harder tires but offer greater traction, which is very desirable on a two wheeled vehicle. Likewise, softer compounds wear faster than harder compounds.

RE: Tire wear
I was pondering this on the way to work this morn... There was a similar thread a way back and we discussed the "Natural" aging (hardening) of tires, manufacture dates, heat cycles and such... Are there any graphs available that show the rate of tire life (hardening) of a motorcycle tire? Not talking about tread.
Give me a softer compound any day on a bike!!! Tires are cheap compared to skin!!!

Dang!! I was bitchin' cause I had to replace my original back tire at 11,800 miles!
Sounds like it wasn't so bad after all. I had 'em put on a Metzler this time to try out. The dealer said they are supposed to last longer than Dunlop's, dunno but it's worth a try.
