Why Not a 110 in all Big Twins?
#11
Question? Isn't the 110" just an 88" that has been bored and stroked? Same cases, right? The 88" is very solid, so they shave out some metal and make a 96', shave a little more and make a 103" and shave even more for a 110". That is a 25% increase in displacement but, what is unknown is how much the cases are weakened with all the shaving, honing, boring. And they wownder why they have gasket problems. How about the 110 cranks? 110"=crap!

I wouldn't even consider trading in my 103" for a 110".
The other day I was at the dealer. They had the new Convertible (I think that's what it's called) It looks like that would make a pretty good multipurpose, Softail, if it didn't have the 110". They should come out with a regular model with the 96".

Geoff, the Springer went away in '09 sadly.
I've got an '07 CVO and have had no problems.
Hopefully it stays that way. There is a recall on my
bike which I haven't had done yet. The old if it ain't broke.
That said my Springer is a rocket. Strongest running Harley
I've ever owned. Changed pipes and a PC3 got 90hp and 110trq
on my local Indys dyno.

Disaster? Katrina was a "disaster", a few troublesome 110s are a warranty inconvenience. I know several locals with CVO 110s with not one problem.

The rear head gasket for the 110 has been redesigned 4 times now. The problem is not the gasket. When the rear cylinder get too hot the liner moves and caused the gasket failure. That was the result of American Iron Magazines research into the 110's problem. There is a after market jug available that will work. A.I.M. had a solution to suggest for correcting the problem but HD probably won't do it.
