not the cheapest, but I'd have to say get new shocks. Not sure on the 01, but on my 08 I can get shocks from HD for about 280 I think. Air shocks. Don't know if your 01 uses the same or not. I know you can't just get the brackets that a lot of guys use, because changing the angle of the shock with those brackets causes an interference with the saddle bags. Some say you can use a heat gun to sort of reform the plastic tub of the bag to clear the new shock position, but all that's starting to sound like, "not the best way", to me anyway.

The dealer can fix you up with shorter shocks.
I'm pretty sure the shocks from a RK custom will fit and they are 1 - 1 1/2 inch shorter.
Also , the street glide has shorter shocks.

Either shocks or air suspension are probably the best. A couple of years ago there were several here on the forum who tried some brackets that were being sold as the 'latest and greatest'...most complained about problems and I haven't seen or heard much about them since...wouldn't recommend that route.

I guess when it comes to suspensions the highest quality is your safest option.
