You know what? I do the exact same thing. I don't know if it helps but it doesn't require much effort on my part and I figure it sure as hell can't hurt.

 

If speed was a factor in that crash, I find it hard to beleive the bike landed on top of the car, and didn't end up with more damage than it looks like.
