Default LOUD Exhaust ticket...Oh well

So yesterday I was riding down the road and saw a cop giving a car a ticket. Apparntly the officer was just finished tickecting the car and thought that I came a little too close to him. It was at least a couple of feet. Cars do this all the time. So he pulled me over for that and asked to see my license and insurance which I have and showed to him. He explained himself and stated that he rides a bike also. I apologized although I explained that the reason I got a Harley was to slow down and cruise, as I have many years left that way. He rode a rice rocket, no prob I complimented him on his choice as I was chewing my tongue. HE then said I have a choice of a loud exhaust ticket, or a speeding ticket. I opted for the exhaust as it is not a moving violation. I was going 35 miles an hour, but didnt ask how much over the limit I was going. All I know is that I get passed by most cars on my bike, as I am more concerned about safety and having room to stop, someewhere to go in case of emergency, etc... Oh well, picked up the stock exhast this am. That is real freaking heavy. I'll put it on on monday and go to the inspection, just out a few bucks and some time. The lesson to be learned for me here is to stay as many feet away from cops in general. I guess I was lucky that I got the option, although I couldn't talk him out of the ticket. Now I can get a new exhaust system and put it on when I am done with the inspection. Never thought I'd get a loud exhaust ticket....Oh well.Name: d81feea5.jpg

Probably so. I know there are cops on this board, so I didn't let loose.

I don't even want to think that we bikers are going to get ticketed for loud pipes and no offensive to anyone, but the runnin boom box cager. I can at least hear my wife or even the rider next to me, but just tell me how you can hear anything when riding in the boom box cager.

Sorry you got a ticket, next time don't buzz the man. Everybody knows that once we modify our exhaust it is no longer legal, so the ticket was at least justified. Yeah he did not have to, but he is doing his job.

I got to agree with Jim, and I'm a cop. If he rides a Rice Rocket then he's much deeper issues to deal with, cause I know his buddies on the force probably ride him to no end for it. I know on my department if you don't ride a Harley, you don't tell anyone about it, or suffers the razzin.

Sounds like an azzhole to me. Unless you're being an offensive *** there's no reason for it. There were probably about a million other things going on in the vicinity that would've been better for him to spend his time on. He was probably just pissed because you don't have to do wheelies to be cool.

Sucks that that happened and that you have to go through all that trouble of putting your stock one back on. Having some costly exhaust issues myself right now.
