I was in the same predicament with my 06 Super Glide Custom.Heard about problems, inner primary bearing, stater and my wife didn't feel comfortable on it so I traded it in on a 09 RKC.Already had a touring bike, just got a little paranoid, didn't want to keep putting money in it even though it ran great and was a beautiful bike.Love my Road King, but I'm still not sure I made the right move.If your going for new, look for a 09,2010 have that cat. in them and for what I hear they run allot hotter.

Fix your Wide Glide AND buy a touring bike.
Give me the touring bike (prefer a RK)!
If the Wide Glide breaks again, OR you don't want the WG
I'll trade you back for the touring bike!
Just trying to help
(Hope you get it fixed for good!)

So i called Harley Customer Service (and the dealer i bought the bike from also called Harley for me ) and the answer is "After further review, HD Support has decided that it is no longer necessary to replace the primary bearing after 15,000 miles at no cost." To add insult to injury, they say that it is all to ensure the best ownership experience possible.
SO - the cost of the bearing and 4 hours labor is what i'll have to pay for another 15,000 miles of fun. (mine went bad at 12k)
Long story short, I'm going to replace the bearing, and add a zipper thundermax, redshift cams, zipper pistons and jugs and call it a day.
Thanks for all your input.

Seems to me that if HD was willing to fix it before, they'd have to stand by that and fix it now. As much as I hate to say it, sounds like it may be time for a class action suit by the '06 owners. That's an issue that should have been a recall and should not still be causing problems for owners.

You should do a search in the Dyna section, lots of Dyna owners have had the inner primary bearing fail. The cause is a misalignment, bearing isn't centered over the shaft. The latest fix is to swap out the inner primary cover and transmission case to a later model that has dowel pins to align them together. Other option would be to make a sleeve to center the bearing then bolt down the cover, that should eliminate any future failures. In any case Harley Davidson has been covering this even out of warranty.

Search results for "primary bearing" in the Dyna section of the forum brings up 244 threads: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/searc...archid=2932188
When you called Harley Davidson, did you mention the letter? Maybe read it to them, especially the below attached paragraph and see how they backpedal.
