Passenger response to emergency braking
#13
Hang the *** on and hope for the best...if they need to close their eyes during the hang the *** on incident then so be it. Seriously that's about all you can do...when we were out in the smokies this year we were running down this road at 60 mph and this damn deer decided to fall into the road right in front of us. I hit the breaks hard (non-ABS) the rear end of the bike was fish tailing as I would apply and release and re apply the brake just to keep us from going into a slide or even worse high sideing. As I was manuevering to keep us up...later my wife said she was holding on for dear life with her eyes closed....in the mean time the deer finally gained traction and bound over the back of my bike just behind my wife...the only reason I know the deer did this is my buddy told me when we finally pulled over. The way I explained it makes it sound like I had plenty of time to react, but in reality all this happened in a matter of seconds!

In a true emergency situation, there is not much they can do in a panic stop. It happens so fast they cannot react in time. I do a lot of 2-up with the wife and she has kissed the back of my helmet several times. Now if she happens to see something unfolding in front of us, she will grab hold of the seat and get ready.

Mine to follwed by a barrage of cussing me out, then a lecture, but I tune her out at the beginning of the barrage, and just say yes dear. (Of course it's bad when she says "Are you trying to kill me" and you say "yes dear" ..Don't ask me how I know this)
