Very interesting Motorcycle Safety Article
I was reading an on line Cruiser mag. This article is about rider safety and myths we've all heard and many of us believe. I think this is worth while reading for any motorcyclist!

I recognize most of this from the MSF class. But this one was not in MSF. This is the first I have heard of this...
Myth 10: It's Better to Stay in Your Lane than Split Lanes
In most parts of the world, motorcycles split lanes all the time, everywhere traffic is heavy. Here in the U.S., people often act as if lane-splitting is insane. But when someone actually studied it in the only place in the U.S. where it's legal (California), they discovered it's actually slightly safer than staying in the lane in heavy, slow-moving traffic. Still many motorcyclists berate others who do it, when they should in fact be endorsing it.

I have to agree here. I still say lane splitting is not safe - especially in the DC metro area, these people are nuts. It would be safer to ride up the fog lane than split lanes (I woulld do neither - just get off at the next exit and be on my merry way)

Lane splitting is not legal here in California, but lane sharing is. To not do so on congested California Freeways is insanity and asking for trouble.

Good article. I was also interested in the lane splitting thing. I rode a little Honda in Jakarta, Indonesia for a year or so when living there and you split the road with everything, let me tell you.
I'm going to be in California riding the new Harley, but I am looking forward to having ALL of the lane. I have no intention of splitting. Makes me nervous, but food for thought I guess.
