Default Interesting Harley Advisory Survey

I've been getting these emails for a while and I've been filling out the surveys. Today's was kind of interesting though.

They were asking questions about what kinds of things I like about the bike and how I would like to change it.

The more interesting parts were asking how much I care about the bike being environmentally friendly, how much I like the power my bike produces, and how much I like 'air cooled' engines and if the engine runs too hot.

I got the impression that they were trying to see if people would start a revolt if they started building more water cooled bikes.

I think its interesting that Harley is at least thinking about these things.

I think they need to tell the EPA to hug a root, and build the air cooled engine that they are capable of building. I for one will never buy a water cooled Harley.

The water cool bike in a parade are the first ones that over heat. We use a parade fan on air cool bikes.

It would be just as easy to add another fan to a water cooled bike.

Water cooling doesn't necessarily make the bike run cooler, it just makes it run at a constant temperature. Removing the temperature variations make it possible to tune the bike better and control emmissions.

Just finished the survey myself. Been filling them out from the beginning. If HD doesn't pony up some kind of gift certificate for doing them, I'm going to tell them to go fly a kite.

If they could flow enough oil to let them lower the idle and get back that real Harley loping sound, i wouldnt care how it was cooled.

Yep. Engine oil is a very effective heat-sink. Personally, I think it's superior to water, just more expensive to buy.

Put a decent capacity radiator on the puppy but forget water. Add as much oil sump capacity as prudent, maybe some sump fins, and select/tune the pump/plumbing to assure good pressure/flow-rate.

That would do fine here in FL or West Texas. Of course MOCO would want to stick some sort of thermostat in the pipe somewhere so Eskimos could still ride Harleys too.

ETA: ...and the greenies would chit a brick.

Surveys... I don't fill out any stinkin' surveys...

Ok... I did the first one... sort of... I left the entire thing blank except for the comments section and in there I told them to come back in a couple of years and I'd let them know how I feel...

Personally I could care less which direction Harley goes from here on out... The ones I have will last me until I can't ride no more...
