Default Motorcycle hits bear in Smokies foothills

It's almost bear season...

The Associated Press
TOWNSEND -- A motorcyclist has hit a bear near Townsend in the Smoky Mountains foothills.

According to WATE-TV in Knoxville, the motorcyclist escaped injury in the Monday afternoon incident.

The station quoted Blount County dispatchers as saying the bear left the scene and may have been injured.

I have spent a lot of time in the smokies since the mid sixties and ridden/drove all over the mountains. It does seem to me that the black bears are more numerous in the last few years.I NEVER ride at night when there if I can avoid it.

They're just large rodents, basically. If there's more garbage, there's more bears.

I was thinking this very same thing myself. i just went to a job related seminar on using copyrighted material and they scared the beejeepers out of me.

Be careful

PS if they were in townsend tenn, he was probably riding cades Cove and that is a high traffic area for bears. Almost any day you can see tourists stopping to take pictures of the cute bear rambling through the trash, never thinking that just away in the woods watching is a very protective momma bear.
