Default Primary Drive Bearing

I went to my local Harley shop today to pick up a derby gasket and an o ring to change the primary oil. Since i frequent that shop, i struck up a conversation with the service manager - as always. He asked about my new wide glide, and how it was treating me. I told him i loved it but i was going to change the primary oil because when i crossed the 12,000 mile mark, it started whirring. He said that a known issue is the primary bearing needs replaced usually at 15k. He said it's about 3 hours labor and not too much for the bearing. So, i did some research. I've read several places that Harley will pick up the tab for this... apparently every 15k for life. Has anyone heard of this? Can anyone give me any verification to take to the dealer? Should i call Harley's customer service?

Thanks for your help!

Allot of posts on this issue, was concerned before I traded in my 06 SuperGlide.Seems that Harley determined it didn't have to be replaced every 15,000 miles so they decided not to stand by their original agreement. If is still under warranty they will replace it.Make sure the mechanic is good and knows what he's doing, something about oil holes not being blocked, and hopefully they have a better replacement bearing.

I can tell you that for the original owner of an early 06 Dyna, the dealer had you sign an acknowledgment re the inner primary bearing needing replacement at 15k and the moco would cover it at no cost for as long as you own the bike. Just had the 2nd one done (no charge, no fight) on 06 Street Bob, 2 years out of warranty.

Bought a used 06 Dyna Low Rider and the primary bearing went bad at about 8k. Dealer was of NO help, MOCO was of no help even though they have admitted there is a problem. Finally decided screw it, I want to ride rather than get more p!ssed off so I had my indy replace it. About $225, still NOT happy with HD not standing behind their product but at least I was able to ride. Do a search in the Dyna section for "inner primary bearing" lots of info there. Good Luck!

I got a friend that has an 06 Dyna. I know the bearing was replaced at least once.
