Big difference between 88 & 96? 5 vs. 6 speed?
My '07 FDX is my first Harley. I've never ridden the 88 ci with 5 speed tranny. I have a line on an '04 Road Glide. I was wondersing if I would be constantly reaching for 6th gear with the RG or would it be a marginal difference, thus, not a deal breaker? The RG only has 7,600 miles and is the fuel injected model. I think I can get this bad boy for 10k (65 year old original owner wants 12k).

I have 04 Road Glide and 07 Lowrider Dyna. I like the power of the 96" and 6 speeds but I ride the '04 Road Glide most all the time. The 04 Road Glide will do a 100 MPH plus and the 07 Lowrider Dyna will do over 120 MPH in 6 gear. The RG you don't feel like you are doing that speed and the Lowrider you know you are going fast.

I have a 06 Dyna Low Rider with the 88ci and 6 speed and a 09 Fat Bob SE 110ci. I don't mind going between the two. I say I have, the Low Rider is my wifes but I ride it sometimes, and I don't ever think about the power differences between the two. It is just fun to ride.

I enjoy the power in my SG, but as far as the 6th speed? I noticed I really only use it when cruising over 70 mph with nobody around. I always end up shifting down to 5th when I get other vehicles around me. I have better acceleration at that speed in 5th

According to Donny Peterson, there is no significant horsepower change between the TC88B and the 96. The only difference between the 5 speed and the 6 speed is the closer ratios between the gears on the 6 speed. The final drive ratios on both transmissions is still 1:1.

If you put a big bore kit in it you you will have
a 95 which will out run a stock 96 and the 04
bikes are built better than the 06 and up. My next
bike is going to be a pre 06 dyna something in
