This thread is absolutely horrifying to me. I just know I'm going to lose sleep over this. I have been washing my Shovelhead for thirty years without this knowledge.

There goes the warranty. Crap.

Forgot to add that the proper technique is rinsing from the bottom up, but once the soap is applied working from the top down.

Only if using an officially licensed H-D hose and nozzle. Accept no substitutes as anything else might cause serious injury or death to you and or your bike.

Most likely, the MoCo's lawyers instructed them to package instructions with a seat screw.

You must have the HD wash mitten too, or warranty is void.

Wow! You guys are the best. If I didnt read this thread, I could have voided the warranty on my new iron, before I even had it!! Do you guys think they will let me put the cleaning supplies into my finance?

That explains every problem I have had over the years. I have been washing it wrong!!! Forget oil changes, tire pressures, and clutch adjustments. Just wash it per HDs instructions.

I got one free with a bottle of official HD liquid soap, leather care, and polishing cloth in a promo deal after purchasing only $300 worth of accessories which was easy 'cause I bought 2 chrome parts. As far as I can tell, my bike is much cleaner with an official HD bucket.

Only if you fail to disconnect the battery first.
