Buying a used bike question.
What is the best way to buy a bike from a seller who say's the MOCO is holding the lien (title)? Thanks!! Not sure they have the cash to pay it off.

I would contact the lien holder, get a letter from them to you agreeing to release the title to you if you pay it off and then make check payable to both the lien holder and the owner.
That should do it but I am not a retail expert.
To each his own

Best thing to do is go to your bank and have them deal with it. Even if your paying cash, they will handle the paperwork and then do a funds transfer from your account. Both you and the seller can go there and sign what paperwork is needed.

This can really be a nightmare. I was recently looking at a bike with a lien on it, but passed. There are too many good deals out there right now. Unless the bike in question is really too good to let go, I would rather buy from someone with title in hand. Then again, that's just me.....

You didn't state if you were financing or buying out right. Like others said if financing--let you financial institute deal with it. If buying out right you can pay off the lien and do a title transfer. Just remember that it is still buyer beware. States differ.

I am buying the bike outright. I just dont want to pay the MOCO off, have them send her a letter saying the lien was paid off and I'm left with J Sh..t.

Talk to Harley financing. They will send the present owner a form giving you the ability to pay off his loan. Go to your local dealer pay it off and Harley will send you the title. If there is a cash difference you can pay that to the present owner. Good luck. Harley financing should be able to help you along the way but stay on top of everything.

I like your answer. Never done it that away but it sounds secure.
