Jugs in the pan were painted with Plasti-Kote HOT PAINT, Ultra High Temp, Aluminum color, 1500+ degrees. They were painted 9 yrs ago, and it has been our 'main ride' since then. So it sees all conditions. BUT know, it takes some heat, and time, before it dries COMPLETELY. That's one of the reasons it 'holds' so well.

I have painted several units with VHT and had GOOD results. (It dries quicker than Plasti-Kote, WAY Quicker, as in DAYS!)

After scuffing REAL good, may want to try "Self-Etching" primer. I get it at NAPA. I use that on aluminum, as they do not sell zinc-chromate primer, anymo'. BUT use it in a WELL VENTED area, as it has NASTY stuff in it, (toulene, xylene, etc), IF you are one of those, that don't like air borne "smells".

Depending on xactlee "what look" you're going for, these wheels were painted with "Self-etching" primer, and then HD Engine Black, Wrinkle (SMALL wrinkle). Matches the jugs, and with a spritzle of "Pig Spit", they look 'true' black, like the paint, IMFUO.

it works fine, I scuffed the shields with sandpaper and then just sprayed on a couple coats. it takes much longer to dry then normal spraypaint.

I don't think they make high heat primer

And the paint actually cooks in once it dries and comes in contact with the heat. then it won't chip or flake off (as you would see with regular spray paint when you don't use primer)
I sprayed my sheilds and road with them sprayed for about 2k miles and they still look brand new. I have since then replaced my pipes all together now but they were holding up great

I used it also, cleaned the pipes with muriatic acid, steel wooled'em and it worked good. Gonna retouch'em up soon.

I've used the Krylon BBQ Black for 2 years now on the mufflers (rated to 1500 degrees). I had the heat shields powdercoated. Shields have held up great (not as hot). The mufflers get the usual road treatment...rocks and stuff chipping them. I sand & repaint them every winter and they're looking good!

One can for $5 once a year vs. ceramic coating for $100-300. No choice there.

Thermalox Stove paint is the best, I've used it for years, it even works on chrome.
