So the Mattress tag says Do Not Remove but its ok for the consumer to do so BUT the bike tag doesn't say a word about not removing it and it a felony???

What about the sticker on my hairdryer that tells me not to use it in the shower? Can that be removed? Gotta go for now, making toast in my pool.

Find a nice gloss black sticker and cover it up, remove it for an inspection if required.

In case you hadn't noticed the VIN sticker has additional info such as the build date. All vehicles have multiple VIN locations some of which are hidden. All required by regulation. It is a felony to remove/deface them no matter how innocent your intentions are.
It is NOT a felony. Stop spreading misinformation.

If it were against the law to remove the sticker it would state that on the sticker. Check your federal and state statutes.

I got a brilliant idea. Why doesnt everyone remove the VIN tag from the dash of their cage? It's only riveted on. You can explain to the cop the number is stamped on the core support and on the firewall if he wants to check.
See how far that gets you.

For those riders here that profess to be major bikers, you don't seem to know much about motorcycles and their history.

It is not state law it is federal law which were designed to help identified stolen vehicles. There are also "secret" vin locations so that parts can be traced.

Do want you want as long as you are aware that there may be future problems. What do I know. I'm only a retired leo with a degree in law enforcement technology.

You have a right to remain silent. Anything that you say can a will be held against you---------------

Seriously, I am not trying to be an a$$. But if you are a retired LEO with a degree, why can't you find the actual law?

The multiple stamped VIN IDs stolen vehicles just like on cars. According to the below listed link, it is clear to me the stickers are to insure the vehicles meet the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulations. It appears to me the regulations are to enrsure the NHTSA can identify who manufactured the bike for safety reasons. Also, this federal regulation is to insure the manufacturer puts a sticker on. It says nothing about after the point of sale. In my mind, this is because after the bike is registered, the DMV know who the manufacturer is. So the tag can be removed in my mind. Anyway, see page 26 of the following link: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/...o/mcpkg002.pdf

It sounds like, even if it is against the law all you have to do is say "officer, I repainted my frame." If they made any law that easy to get out of, they wasted EVERYONE'S time and money.
