Good for you for making sure you have a sticker.

Even if the VIN on the sticker and the VIN on your frame and engine do not match.

The imporant thing is to have the sticker. You are good to go.

Tell you what, go by your local popo or DMV and let them do a quick check and post back here what you find out.

The stickers with the VIN and build dates was imposed since the early 70's when Honda sold 69 CB750's as 1970 models. I got some cash back from the class action law suit on that one.

For those riders here that profess to be major bikers, you don't seem to know much about motorcycles and their history.

If it is a "felony", which I find very hard to beleive. What are you supposed to do if you repaint your frame?

I also suspect the legality of sticker removal varies state to state. I find it hard to beleive you could do jail time for removing a sticker on something you own.

I read the entire thread. No one listed a link to a law about sticker removal. It was just guys arguing over what they "know". One of the guys even claims he called his police department and asked what happens if it just falls off. The cop told him that was different. Another guy says that the manufacturer doesn't supply new stickers if you have your frame painted. Too many loopholes for a "felony".

I still call BS. I might buy that it may very well be a misdameanor in some states if you get caught while you are removing it. No one is going to prison (which is basically what felony means) for removing their sticker. If you prove me wrong I will gladly apologize. I am just not buying the whole "federal law" and "felony" thing right now.
