Default Hauling a bike?

I am picking up a non running 1200 Sportster and have a truck with a six foot bed. Has anyone hauled a bike in a six foot bed or am I going to have issues with it fitting. Thanks

I hauled mine in a 5-1/2 foot bed with no issues. With the tail gate down you will add another foot & a half. Just use good tie downs. I made the mistake of buying the cheap tie downs and they will, every once in awhile, lose their grip.

Thanks Medic, I have quite a few of the soft tiedowns so I should be good to go. Thanks

If your worried about weight on the tailgate (and I do with cable supported tailgates) put teh bike on a a 2x8 (or wider).
Actually I used 2x10s with 1x4 guides on each side. The bikes would stand up by themselves while I tied them down, I never used any chocks.

My son hauls a Street Bob in his short bed truck. He learned that with the thinner metal used in vehicles today that the tail gate sunk in a little. Having a piece of plywood under the rear wheel should solve that.

try or better yet, get plenty of help to load and unload... its easy to lose it loading by Ur self...

also make sure the ramp will support the weight of the bike...seen several break or bend and things go south in a hurry.
