i was at a trade show last feb. in greenville s.c. one of the booths there had the chatterbox intercoms for sale. although i had heard bad news from dealer friends here i decided to try one anyway hoping they had improved. well! at best at low speed i could have gotten better sound quality with a couple of peices of garden hose. at road speed you can barely hear at full volumn. it is completly unreliable, sometimes not working at all. the boss lady and i put 700+ miles on one week end trip and it never worked the whole time. i have started to send it back for warranty, but then it will work for a while. it has been very frustrating. has any one had simular experiences with these? are all the intercoms crap like the chatterbox or are there decent ones that don't cost half what i paid for the bike?

That's probably the main reason I won't give any of those COM systems a second look. All have very mixed reviews.

Unreliable communication can be worse than none or all. Definitely a PITA as I found when my cb was acting up on a road trip. Can you hear me now? where are you?, that sort of thing.
