the way i would see it. bags, seat upgrade, and a windshield would make any softail similar. of course depending on seating position. same would go for the vrod ad all those things and comfort is changed. one thing i forgot to mention was that i do a lot of city driving so agility is a plus. i will consider the touring bikes. i want a really low seat and that will cost me bucks on the tourers if i dont want to lose clearance.

No one bike is perfect for everything...It will be a give and take to fit your needs.....
The only thing I would add is dont assume the hertige and touring bikes are not agile...
My heritage is exremely agile to me BUT the ABS on the touring models are a flat out STOPPING system!!!

night rod or crossbones. im buying this for two up riding and some light touring duty. currently use a honda 929RR as my daily ride but its not so good for 500+ miles in a day type of riding. no back seat either for the simple fact that a 370lb bike with 130rwhp is hard to keep the front down and steering sux entirely with passenger...
any insight would be much appreciated

The night rod should not even be on your list based upon what you said.
If you want agility and 2 up capability, go with a Dyna. Based upon your tastes, I'd recommend the Fat Boy low. Check it out, you might like it.

If you are in the northern area, head up to Kosco on route 23, they have a rental fleet and you could try a few out.

The stock MSRP for a Cross Bones and Night Rod are about the same. Neither have much in the way of any real 2-up creature comforts.
The Road King, however, is the same price point and is pretty much set up with all the basic 2-up comforts out of the box.
If you go for the other two, you are going to be spending MORE money for windshields, bags, and decent seating/footrests for touring.
