There was a long post on this topic some while back... You got both sides with pretty convincing arguments.

On a bagger, adhesive doesn't seem to be necessary, but I'm not sure on an FX... I'd think, if you can't get it tight any other way, use the glue...

If the left grip goes into the housing, then I wouldn't use glue. If it just slides onto the handlebar and rests against the housing, then I would use glue. Either way you don't have to and I think you can get away with using electrical tape and hair spray.

The HD grips are keyed and lock in.
Aftermarkets don't. You will need some kind of adhesive for them. Could be hairspray, grip glue, gorrila glue, etc...

If you glue it, I'm not sure how you get a chrome one off though.

Thanks guys the grips are aftermarket and do fit into the housing but they still spin loosley my concern was getting them off if i want to change in the future, i think i'll try the electrical tape and a small amount of glue that way twisting really hard should brake them free. Thanks

I have thunder cycle chrome grips on my FXSTS. They butt up to the housing and have a set screw. I used the glue.
