Default Helmet Question

So I was walking along my driveway after riding and I was carrying my helmet with me at my side when I accidentaly dropped it. Is the helemt still good?

I've been reading conflicting reports where it says if you drop your helmet from a low height that that helmet is still usuable but then I read other reports that state once you drop your helmet you have to replace it.

So I'm a little torn. Helmets are expensive (I wear a FF scorpion EXO-700) so I can't exactly afford a new helmet everytime one gets dropped and I have a hard time beleiving that a helmt would be rendered useless after a short drop.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I'm not an expert but I would say that your helmet is ok. It's most likely that you've only scratched or chipped the finish. I did that once and after changing bikes, I had it repainted. In 35 years of riding, I've never heard what you said about the recommendation to replace your helmet if you drop it.

No and Hell no. If I replaced me helmets every time I dropped one I'd be in the poor house.

It's designed for one drop.

Sorry....you need a new helmet.

Or, rather....what's YOUR head worth? It has already taken it's one compression......might as well not even wear one then, IMHO.

If it were me, I'd get a new helmet.....and hold on to it better next time!

I've always heard that the exact point where the helmet made impact is compromised... enough to warrant a new helmet is your call.

What are the chances you will hit that same exact point while wearing the helmet in the event of a crash...

Agreed if it cant take a small drop how is it going to protect you? I do know that back in the day that they would take a pretty good beating and still work

If it's not cracked,I would'nt worry about it ,unless you had a bowling ball in it when you dropped it ,something has to be on the inside to compress the padding from a short fall. IMO. But it's your noggin.

Shocking, a 24-30" drop & it's rendered useless?
