Raped by the Law

Gotta ask you:
Is splitting lanes illegal in NY?
Were you riding one handed and that's illegal also?
Were you wearing a non-DOT helmet and are they illegal in NY?
ETC?
If all of those are valid charges man, sounds like you really were just a target waiting to happen. Just saying. Yeah, sounds like he was being a ***** but if he stopped you and found all of these valid violations, I imagine it pissed him off a little. That and you gave him your FDNY ID, he maybe thought you had skated long enough on the courtesy of being in a similar line of work.
But certainly, if he was just being a ***** and stacking charges get a lawyer and go to court. You'll probably be able to easily get it reduced on your good driving record but honestly, if all or most of those are indeed valid charges, and you knew this, sounds like you were seriously tempting fate.
Best of luck.

I have 2 things to say...
The first is, there are a whole bunch of people in NY, especially in the downstate NYC region, who are related or closely connected somehow, professionally, with law enforcement. And a lot of those who fit this description really do believe they're not only above the law, but literally entitled to and seemingly obligated to break it. If you're not a LEO, don't expect professional courtesy everytime from every officer.
Right now, NYC is slamming the hammer down with zero tolerance on motorcycles. Every night I watch as they haul another load of confiscated bikes (mostly rice rockets, but some HDs too) into the impound yard. Motorcycle noise and street antics are the #1 complaint to the NYC 311 noise & quality of life complaint hotline. It is (was) literally out of control with the rice rockets and the HD's blasting through Manhattan and the boroughs with wide open pipes, and total disregard for everyone and everything around them. The community boards are 100% behind this effort.
So now I gotta ask - of all the paper you got, which ones are you really not guilty of, aside from the insurance?

Seems like he might've done you a favor by stacking the charges like that. Any one or two of the violations are legit, but it's obvious he went out of his way to harass you when he wrote eleven. Keep us posted about your experience with the judge.

Doesn't matter if he was guilty of every violation. Cops don't write tickets like this rider got UNLESS either he or the rider is an ahole. One or two tickets would've covered these violations. A message is being sent to someone imo.

The way the tickets are written, you were changing and splitting lanes with one hand on the bar. You had on a non-DOT helmet. But you are wondering if he stacked charges? Oh, Jake looks like this time your NYFD ID didn't get you in the clear from Perry the Policeman.

I agree. When I saw the title of the post, I thought, "Here we go again. Somebody's crying cause they got what they had coming". But, you were bent over. Take that jerk to court. The judge should throw out most if not all of the charges. You might want to go and get yourself a DOT helmet, though. Good Luck.

Although you screwed up by lane splitting, an illegal hemet, etc. but he threw your helmet to the ground?
You must have really pissed him off.
Edit: BTW, you didn't get raped or screwed at all. You broke many laws and finally got caught, but maybe an attorney can get a few items dropped.
