Default Dealer put too much oil, So while i was at it

Oil shows about an inch above the full when hot line. I just want to maybe syphon off some of it without making a big mess. How bout an idea or two. I want to go riding today but don't want to pull the drain plug iff I don'y have to.

I figgered while I was at it I'd check everything. I usually check oil and air before and after a ride. T dealer had over 50 psi in the front tire, the tranny oil was fine, rear tire had about 30 psi. This is unacceptable. i'm heading to the dealer this moring for a little face time with the service dept. I mean really, how much time does it take to inflate tires correctly. Anybody go the FIX MY HOG dvd?

get yourself a turkey baister from the kitchen or store. suck out the extra oil and squirt it into a oil bottle. save it for later if you need to add oil. don't throw it out.

Hi,
Same thing happened to me on my 2006 Dyna Wide Glide. I decided to have the dealer do the 1000 mile check, and got the bike home and checked the oil, and it was overfilled. Looks like the morons put in 3 full quarts.... The service manual plainly states 2.5 quarts wet capacity (only use 3 quarts for dry capacity - like if the engine had been disassembled, cleaned internally and was completely dry).

I used one of those "Flavor Syringes" (like you use to inject meat with before cooking). I had some fish tank air hose that slipped right over the end of it, and this allowed me to put the hose into the oil filler hole and draw out about half a quart to make it the proper level. I tried the turkey baister, but I have the V&H Big Radius pipes and couldn't get the thing in there because the pipes are in a different place than the stock pipes...

Man, I was ticked off... I called the dealership and all they could say was sorry. I asked, how about some money back, since I had to do part of this work myself anyway... The guy wouldn't think of it... He did offer to wash my bike for me sometime... I told him no thanks - that they wouldn't be laying a finger on my ride again...

Made me nervous, so I went over the whole bike myself to make sure they didn't jack anything else up... Looks like everything else is ok... Bike runs good, and I'll be doing my own maintainance from here out...

Cheers,
John

It could pop the dipstick out of the hole and leak oil on the bike and/or you.

So is it different for a Sporty? I changed my oil ( 03 1200 C ) and the manual says 4oz in the new filter and the rest of the 3 quarts into the oil tank. So that means there is more than three in the motor? If it is bad, I need to go and siphon some out?

Glad I found this thread.
