Okay I have a few problems with your story.

1) "having a loving riding partner that understood his need to roam the highways"
My wife doesn't understand anything about me, biking or roaming. Maybe that's just my bitch though.

2) "to his trusty old pan that hadn’t let him down once in the many years they had shared the road together"
Yeah, Panheads have never let anybody broke down on the side of the road, have they.

3) "upon investigating, found the old biker lying along the roadside with the gremlins about to get him"
Okay now this blows the theory that the bell will ward off the Gremlins. It didn't bother them in this story, just the two bikers that was gonna kick their a$$es. So now your telling me my bell doesn't do anything??????? WTF

I may not believe in the bells, but I do carry one (held on by a leather teather) that my sister-in-law gave me. Tradition is tradition.

The way I take it, if a friend or family member gives it too you, you are never alone in thought. So, with that said ride safe !

Never been superstitious so it doesn't mean anything to me.What happens to me is because of my lack of focus, or at the wrong place at wrong time, plain and simple.

JohhnyBoy: "Useless????" That's not what the legend you posted says. And I quote "If you pick up a Guardian® Bell of your own, the magic will work, but if your bell is given to you, the power is doubled" Details, details, details.

Texas Fat Boy: The legend quoted by JohnnyBoy was the begining of the Guardian Boy Legend. i.e. they weren't Guardian Bells until the "crusty old biker" started the tradition.

Come on guys "READ."

You can read my comment to while you are at it. According to the story the bell did nothing. The two bikers scared off the gremlins.

Come on, do I have to say when I'm being a smart **** around here?
It's a freakin' bull crap tradition. I'm not against stupid traditions, but just don't tell me this sh%t works.
