Default Reasonable mileage for one day trip??

I've been trying to plan a one day ride for me and the Mrs. to go on. Because of work and family commitments it's not possible for us to go on an overnighter right now. I've got some ideas but I'm just wanting to get some advice on what would be a reasonable distance to ride for a one day ride...I am a newbie so I'm sure I shouldn't get overly ambitiuos.

Thanks, JB

If you are new to riding and taking the wife as well, I would probably be a little on the conservative side planning a trip.

You don't want to plan a 800 mile roundtrip, only to find out 300 miles from home you mighta bit off a little more than you could chew.

With that said, you know your limitations far better than anyone on this forum, and as such should be in a good position to determine what is best for you. Maybe a 2-300 miler to start off and assess it from there? That is what I would do.

Depends on whether you want to just ride or actually do something. Then, it depends on how you want to ride...cruise secondary roads or blast down the interstate. Sure, the OL and I have done several 700+ mile days, but there was nothing but saddle time involved just to get to a destination. For a pleasure ride, I'd suggest keeping it under 200 miles each way, especially for unseasoned butts...LOL.

Completely dependent on the rider...some folks only do 100miles comfortably, others pack in 700. Also, dependent on the passenger.

100 miles out,100 miles back.........Great for the first time. Then use this as a gage to plan your next trip

IF you are new to riding, I wouldd not want take your wife for day trip. Riding 2 up need practice and gain some experience. But then everyone is different. I never like to risk my family until I get it all down like clock work..

+1 on HD7585...easy does it, pick ride that allows some side interest..100-150 each way until you are TOLD to go further...promote domestic tranquility. Lots of guys on here have SOs that won't ride and maybe some are because the first exposures were not pleasant John
