I seldom run the interstate and when I do its arround the speed limit. but I will end up with 15-20K a year and most of it on the 2lane highways. This is where the Harleys are fun to ride. this is why so many of us buy and ride Harleys.
it seems to me you should have bought a wing since you dont give a dam what you ride. I've been ridin Harleys near 40yrs and I love rideing them. yea they require some tinkering and some finetuneing and it's a labor or love for me. hell it gives me some hands on my bike on rainny days.
why dont you ride by the Maryville TN Harley shop some saturday night and listen to some live music have a beer and check out the bikes and chicks, hopefully it will help you ease up on the Harley bashing you seem to like to do.
And just because you bought the bike you wanted dosnt mean it is a good choice for what you want to do with it. there arnt many HDs amoung the finishers in those ironbutts rides. it's just not what they are good at. but you will see thousands of them out there on these lil 2lane roads cuiseing along enjoying the day. that's what they do and thats what they do best.
Look if i would have wanted to "Harley I would have done it without paying $17,000 for the priviledge. And yes I looked at 11 touring type bikes. Of all of these bikes the ergonomics of the HD with the foot forward position fit me best with my 6'5" frame. It ranked first in esthetics and it came in second on the handling equation. Other things were not as good but you make choices from a list of positive and negatives. I considered them all the best that I could but I am learning more (both pos and neg) as I gain more experience. That is just the facts and the truth. Someday maybe an honest question or observation will not be threating on this sight.

I've owned Hondas and Yamahas up to now...they all rode great...especially my Stratoliner. My new RoadGlide really rides rough...man I feel every single bump. I plan to replace the stock seat with a Mustang Vintage seat like I had on my other bikes. What else could I do to make the ride a little smoother on my poor old back. Like I said...I just love the bike...but it's the roughest riding bike I have ever rode. Sure could use some advice...cause other than the ride the Harley is fantastic.
Thanks

Well, I logged back on to this thread today and see you continuing to bash your bike. So, you asked for some advice, here it is....... Don't buy the new seat; don't adjust the shocks; put and ad in the paper and SELL IT!!! Then, buy a Goldwing and ride the interstate.............enough already!!! (Maybe all those Iron Butt rides have done some damage north of your butt).

My dad bought an ultra a few months ago and complained about it be rough. come to find out, there was never any air in the airshocks. go figure the dealer would let it him take it off the floor like that. now all is well. good luck with your ride.

Glad to see some are getting good reliability with HD touring bikes. I've been beginning to wonder how long they'll go based on experience.

Granted both of my touring bikes were used. 2000 Road King to start with, 49,000 miles when I bought it. Bought the aftermarlet warranty with it and glad I did, it lived in the shop. Electrical issues and primary and transmission leaks. It was actually up on the rack torn apart waiting on parts when I traded it as I wanted to make payments on something I could ride, not just look at.

Traded for a 2002 low mileage Electra Glide Classic and love it. I've only put about 3,000 miles on it and have treated it well and tomorrow it goes back to the dealer for electrical problems and primary or transmission leaks and they'll probably have it for at least a week but at least again I purchased the warranty. Hopefully it be fixed the first time in and be trouble free for a while. I ride it to work on the highway in rush hour traffic so it has to be reliable or I could end up a splat in the road by someone too busy on their cell phone to see a bike rapidly stopping in front of them.
