Biketoberfest

If you are a first timer from out of town I would stay on the beach close to the downtown activities. The "goings on" are spread out between Ormond Beach to the north and Deland to the west. My group prefers to camp out. We stay about 15 minutes from Daytona out by a place called the Cabbage Patch. The Cabbage Patch is also a definite place to see. There are a couple of sponsored rides that take you up the coast to St. Augustine that you might like as well. Google "Biketoberfest" and you should find an "official" web site with an event calendar.

You can get a full flavor of Datona Bikefest by hitting:
* Main Street, everyone has to ride (walk) your bike down it once... See the bikes and sites and vendors during the day, hit the bars at night. Start at Boot Hill Saloon.
* To see ***** and watch bikes the best place is a restaraunt that is on the northest corner just off of the main street bridge. They have stools and a bar by the sidewalk that face main street. Take a beer break there and enjoy the show.
* The Cabbage Patch (nuff said)
* Iron Horse Saloon in the evening (catch the steak and potatoes dinner!!) and vendors across the street
* Destination Daytona Harley Dealership during the day
There are a ton more, but that will get you started and you can ask people as you go.
Where to stay?
Depends on the amount you want to drink. if you aren't a drinker, Look at Lake Mary to the south or St Augustine to the north. Easy rides great way to wind down.
If you like to drink, grab one of the motels or hotels out by the beach on A1A. That way you can park your bike and walk to the Main Street bars and just stumble/roll downhill to your room. if you want to be comfortable and kind of keep your bike safe, you may see if there is still room at the Daytona Beach Hilton. They allow you to put the bikes in their underground parking. It is a cluster fack of parking though. At least they are behind the gates of the parking garage. Gotta have a room key to get them.
And some things you didn't ask:
Here is what the police are looking for and will get you a ticket.
* Breaking the back tire lose
* Lifting the front wheel
* Always have eyewear. Has to be clear at night, and yes they will look to see.
* If you have ape hangers and your hands are above your shoulders when on your grips, you get a ticket. Sit straignt, don't slouch when passing a cop. If you get a ticket, keep it to show the next officer, they will only issue 1 during the week. Radical apes, defintely paying for the ticket...
* and for the rice rockets and the pimped out baggers, if you have neon lighting on your bike, turn it off before hitting the streets at night. Especially if it is blue.
The cops are pretty cool considering everything that is happening during the week. If you act like an azz hat though, you will get treated like one.
If you have specific questions send me a note.

Fresh oil in all three holes, the heat could be torture on them. Stop and go traffic sucks, especially around the speedway and vendor city. US1 nort of Daytona at night, up in Ormond Beach is pretty wild too. When going to Cabbage Patch hit it at night, cooler temps and hotter activity.
