Consumers need to educate themselves on what they are dealing with and cannot rely on salespeople to provide the consumer with the information they are looking for and need. If you come in knowing what you want and prove you know what you're talking about you'll be much better off.

I agree with you 100%. Don't let it get to you.

I'm guessing if you went to 5 different dealers you will get 5 different offers. From there pick the fair offer. Make sure you buy the right model, options, and color or you will be right back in the same predicament of loosing your butt on a trade to get what you want....

Your obviously smart enough to know selling your self will bring more than a trade but you will pay more in taxes.

On the other side of the coin, dealers get tired of guys walking in thinking their trade-ins are worth more than they actually are.

The ball is in your court. It's a dog-eat-dog market out there.

I understand this as well. Thing is had a dealer show me book on my bike and I am asking to get mid price according to his book!! Not unreasonable to me! Just don't insult my intelligence!!

Definitely have to visit as many dealers as you can. Was almost set to purchase an '07 Sportster 1200 Custom with 4000 miles with a "firm" price from a dealer for $9200, until I came upon the '09 Sportster 1200 Custom that I purchased that was just traded in with only 400 miles on it for $8700 at another dealer (both were stock and identical color).

Oh, the '07 is still sitting on that other dealership's floor.

Sales is tough - there are good and bad sales folks everywhere. Like the other posters put it - shop around and get exactly what you want.
(Internal Monologue here . . . HD does have some sales folks that really need to find a new line of work - or get some sales training)
