Default Laser/Radar Detector

Hello
I want a Laser Detector, Radar Detector, and laser jammer for my bike.
Tell me your experience with the different brands you may have used.
Im also interested in that Lic. plate spray or covers for the plate that throws off the photo radar

Also how have you mounted these so they are out of sight?

And please lets stick to the technology, dont tell me "dont speed" because I contend I never have.

I have a Valentine V-1 best out there, covers 360* and is upgradable. Dont get caught with a jammer, and forget the lic plate stuff its just a gimmick and it doesnt work.Saw a show on tv where a Lamborghini went by with that brap on the plate at 155 mph and the plate was perfectly legible.

+1 on the Valentine. Also, you can get it hard wired into the bike for power and get a separate display as well as a mc attachment that allows you to put headphones into it so you can hear the noises it makes.

I had one but my truck got broke into and it was stolen!

That plate cover is pure snake oil.

I run a Escort 8500X50 and it works wonderful. I have it mounted on the handlebars with a mount just behind the windscreen. I use a LED lite attached to the earphone plug to give a bigger visual during an alert. Also hard wired into the acc side.

Whatever you choose, make sure you can hear it at speed.

I've always heard good things about Valentine, K40, and Escort Passport. I use Escort Passports in both vehicles, keeps things consistent for me. For a nominal fee they'll service them every few years and update em etc.

Kinda big for the bike, for me anyway, the less crap hanging around the better, especially since it would have to be prominently mounted to be effective.

I've seen this product that looks pretty cool, motorcycle friendly, waterproof, glove friendly buttons, special mounting brackets, etc., just don't know about performance: http://www.pashnit.com/product/adaptiv_radar.html

Same site also has motorcycle specific jammers: http://www.pashnit.com/product/cheetah_m25_rider.html

This product looked pretty interesting http://www.radarbusters.com/radar-de...ardetector.cfm
I'm not sure, but it seemed to me like this might mount in a gauge hole in a fairing? or to the bars... Maybe it has a remote sensor for detection, I'm not sure, but that would be a clean look on a fairing bike, it's out of stock here, but maybe it still exists...

As for the spray, I bought some before when we had a rash of cameras being used in the area, for the cars. I think it depends on what kind of camera is taking the picture. From my understanding the cameras that use a high volume infrared or whatever flash, to ensure the plate is visible from a distance in all light levels, the spray works on those because it overexposes the image to the point the letters are no longer legible. For cops in vans that may be using some sort of video capture, the spray may not work.

Then the plate covers are a totally separate issue, the plate covers work like a privacy screen for your laptop, view head on you can read them, try to read them from an above angle and you cannot see the plate, because of the ridges in the plastic covering the plate. These do work against overhead mounted cameras, but not from a camera at ground level, again the cops in the van, or remote camera at ground level.

Then there are the legal issues surrounding the two products. However, there are also legal issues about the use of such cameras. I know in NC, the law says the money has to go to schools, not leaving enough for the operators to make a profit, so Charlotte canned their whole program, thank God. Funny, the whole time they were pitching it and supporting it, they said it was about safety, not revenue. The minute someone sued them and told them they had to give all the money to schools, and it was cost them money after the operator got paid, the program was canned. But I thought it wasn't about revenue, and it was about safety? Dumba$$es!

The problem I had about the red light cameras was not the fact that it would get blatant red light runners, but that every intersection is different, and until you publish publicly the formula used to set the yellow/red lights, then it's an unfair bias against the driver. Often they state an average time a light is yellow, but that means nothing without two other very important factors, like Speed Limit on the road in question, AND THE SIZE OF THE INTERSECTION!!! If you have a slow speed 35 or 40 mph road, but have an 6 lane/median intersection to cross, that's gonna take longer to get through it. These morons would have the same length yellow light on that wide intersection as they would a faster and shorter intersection that was much easier to get through. Where was the red light camera? On the slow / long intersection. You could be entering the box of the intersection just as it turned yellow, and still be in the box when it turned red, if you were traveling the speed limit, and you'd get a ticket, there was no way to get through legally. So what happened, people started slamming on their brakes for fear of getting a ticket, and slide out into the middle of the intersection, or cause someone to rear end them. Great, that's safer for everyone! Then, the whole point about it being a mandatory ticket you had to pay, even if you professed your innocence. They mail you a citation, no matter if you're out of town and never get the citation, or are a broke dude, if it wasn't paid in 2 weeks the fine doubled from $50 to $100, no exceptions. That was some BS right there! Glad it's gone!

Laser jammers are expensive and it doesn't work against radar and nothing works against the instant on radar guns. Radar jammers work but are illegal. I saw a demo of one on You Tube and they are cool. I use a radar detector in my car and it works well but I've been hit with the instant on and I realize how useless the detector is. It will give you a warning as long as someone is in front of you and hit first.
