take it off and throw it in the trash

I only know one person that uses it and he just added little blue loctite and gave it a good turn, been good ever since.

btw he lost 2 before this lol

It's 18-22ft lbs. on a softail, probably the same on a tourer. Hard to find in the manual. It's buried in the transmission section under Shifter Pawl Lever Assembly.

until it stops rattling. Just pulled heel shifter yesterday and cleaned up the splines, blue loctited it, and got it as tight as I could. It doesn't rattle now and won't fall off like it tried last week... at least for another year I hope.

Tighten the bolt until it is at the breaking point, then back off 1/4 turn.

Some blue lock-tite and a good firm turn. I like my heel shifter.

Take the time to clean the shift arm and the shaft splines with brake cleaner.
A thin film of oil or grease in there will prevent a nice tight fit.
As has been said, use blue loctite and torque to specs.

I appreciate everyones input. In the past 2.5 years since i bought the bike, i have lost the entire shaft and shift levers and almost lost another complete set up. I took the toe shifter off and noticed the shaft spline was slightly worn which is why the toe shift lever was loose. i thought it was the splines on the shift lever. i tighted it down after i put the lever in the vice and tried to close the gap a little. Im sure im going to have problems with it again. i have a trip on the 27th to CA that im hoping does without a hitch. thanks again for the help. Ride Safe.

when i first started working on my bike myself i used to torque everything to spec. Now with some experience i tighten to feel and add blue loc-tite. never had any issues.
