I keep hearing the words of an old timer I knew years ago when I first started riding...when something like this came up, he'd look at the guy with exaggerated deep concern, put his hand on the poor fellow's shoulder and then say very slowly..."It ain't rocket science, son...it's a Harley..."

I sort of take into consideration how much fuel I need based on what's left in the tank. I then have an idea on how many gallons I need and don't even peek until I'm close. I then close the trigger and slowly pull the nozzle out until I can see where the lvl is and slowly add fuel until full.

I've worn fuel before and it's not fun..

+1 I usually know approx how much to fill back up and will have it fully squeezed until about 3 gal and then release the lever so it's not so much pressure and watch it as it gets close to the filler neck and let up on the lever a little more till the gas touches the bottom of the filler neck, let go and no splashes.

I was watching American Chopper.... (Yes, I admit it and I watch SOA too) and there was an episode of Mickey using one of those McCuff's and spilling gas all over the tank.

I think that I will just take the occasional splash of gas as a wake up call and keep doing it the old fashioned way. I just can't see spending money on some thing to help put gas in the tank.

I always carry an extra bandana or a shommy in my pocket and when i am filling up I wrap it around the nozzle so that the gas doesnt spill out.
