Now I'm not condoning the prices but keep in mind on a car/truck mag, they only have to polish and make 1 side look good. The inside part doesn't have to be perfect. It's not really going to be seen, is it?

On a motorcycle, both sides have to look identical/perfect. Cost to do so does go up.

It does not increase the manufacturing cost much. But a smaller market and less competition will.

If you think the rim is expensive, let's think about the HD bike vs. a Toyota Truck that is made is TN. MoCo eats us alive. But if you like the sound of "potato potato, potato, we have to pay.

MoCo continues to say ..... "Hey guy, HD is American Heritage, be proud. Let empty your pocket one more time. Do you want this in chrome, 500 bucks!!! .

Capitalism at its best. With all said and done, it is just Money, we can make some more.

Same reason everything else for a motorcycle costs 3-5 times as much as it should.

When was last time you priced out a CUSTOM 18,19 or 20 inch automotive rim. You will find there is not alot of price difference between car and bike rims Limited market demand and high cost of production make all custum wheels expensive.

No chit dude...I saw an article in American Iron a few months ago where they were doing a rear wheel and swingarm changeout on a bike and it was over $5K for the parts....HUH? I think I would just get an additional bike of some kind instead of blowing that kind of dough.

Probably a little more work is involved in making a motorcycle wheel since they are machined for the axle and wheel bearings.

But even so, that shouldn't account for more than a few extra dollars.

Like everything else, it's a matter of supply and demand, plus the fact that anything you purchase from the dealer seems to demand a premium price.

But like others have said, as long as people are willing to pay the price they aren't going to lower the price.

It is like the with anything that has to do with HD . Look at the prices for engine parts for cars vs. bike .The bike has less parts but cost twice as much
