Nightster Rust
#13
My 883R is pretty corroded for a bike that's less than two years old; swing arm; belt guard (paint flaking off as the metal has rusted through underneath); paint flaking off the fork lowers, probably due to electrode potential issues caused by use of dissimilar metals for the fork lowers and the seal covers that fit on top of them.
Mine does get used as my main commuter, so has seen two winters on the salty roads. I have been blaming the road salt for the rot, but maybe it's something in the British air. The West Midlands and Buckinghamshire may seem a long way from the sea in Britain, but they are a heck of a lot closer to the sea than most places in the USA.
Interesting to note, Brooksy, that your ECM had to be replaced. Mine did too. It's a pretty major element for a fuel injected bike, so you would think they should be more reliable than that. I missed out on the best riding weather last summer while my bike was sitting at the dealers waiting for a new one to come in from the US (via the Netherlands).

Makes you wonder if they ship them exposed, instead of locked in a tight, dry container.
I basically live on the coast, it's hot and wet here, keep my Train in a garage, wash and wax bi-weekly, and have zero corrosion of any type.
