Do you live in a no helmet state and wear a helmet
#151
If I'm going a VERY short distance, often I won't wear it.
Most of the time, I do wear it. Not only for the protection, but I find that I am more comfortable on longer rides wearing it, than not wearing it, as it keeps the wind out of my ears.
On that note, I wear an open face, but full length on the sides (Shoei RJ Platinum). I have tried the half helmets (that are part of the "Harley uniform".), and I have found that they are very uncomfortable to wear for any length of time. The wind catches the half helmet and pulls up on the chin strap, and also, the wind noise in your ears with a half helmet is WORSE than the wind noise with NO helmet. (In my opinion.) This on a bike without a windshield.

I wear the dot half, it's the best compromise to me.
I do have to chuckle a bit, as the Summer is progressing I'm getting a noticable set of "whiteburns" where the strap shields my skin from the sun.

Back and forth to work or by myself on the hiway, yes. Out with a group of riders no. I live in So Dak. and doubt we will never be a helmet required state as sturgis brings to much money to the state to risk it. To each his own, just be smart and be careful.
