Do you live in a no helmet state and wear a helmet
#131
In TX we can ride without if we have the right insurance and a sticker from DPS on license plate. Sept 1 the stickers go away and you cannot be pulled over for not wearing a helmet and max ticket is $50, so essentially there wil be no helmet law in TX at that point.
I use to ride without when I was younger, but after losing a good friend and having children I never ride without. I do think its our choice and there should be no laws, same with seat belts in cages even though I always wear one.

I live in Kansas and there is no helmet law here. I seldom wore a helmet before I crashed last year and had 24 staples in my scalp to hold the flaps of skin together. Now I wear one all the time, even though its just a beanie helmet.
How dumb would I be if I crashed again when not wearing a helmet and they had to stich up my head? I may be a slow learner but I do learn.

A different spin on the question
Ok,
Ya'll are good little sheep and wear your protective equipment.
How about developing skills and learning how to ride so you do not need this stuff?
You still need to worry about the other guy, but if you are skilled and in control, no worry!
Sturgis is coming up and if you want to see inept riders, just go one year.
$30,000 and a week do not make you a rider.

I think sometimes things can happen beyond your control, that is one of the reasons that I usually wear a helmet.
That being said you have a very good point. A helmet, leather jacket, chaps, etc. is no substitute for riding skill, experience, and a good riding strategy. Who is at greater risk, a skilled experienced rider with no helmet or someone riding over their skill level with a false feeling of invincibility wearing every piece of safety gear they can find?

Interesting results... 60% of those who live in no helmet states wear one all the time.
Same goes for me. I value my head too much to leave it unprotected.

This may come off wrong, but sometimes I wish people like yourself would hit the asphalt and slide for a couple hundred feet. Once you have done it, that protective equipment might suddenly appeal to you. Just seems like common sense to me, IDK?
