Default Reprogramming the right miles into a new speedo?

Bought a new HD speedo. Nostalgic one with the white face.

Called my dealer thinking they could program in my current miles?

They said they have to send it top the factory and it could be gone 4-6-8 weeks?

Has anyone actually had a speedo programmed at the dealership? Or do they always hafta send them away to a secret facility?

I thought the dealer did it, at least that is how the parts book makes it seem.

Damn that blows, I was thinking of getting the nostalgic speedo on the RK.

When the dealer orders your speedo,it is sent from the Mfgr with your current mileage PLUS 500 miles...at least thats what they told me...I just put mine on with zero miles and started over...(be sure to record the mileage on the original BEFORE taking it off)...

I ordered a speedometer from Zanotti's, they said four to six weeks for me to receive it with the mileage I wanted programmed into it (has to be programmed at the factory). I estimated my mileage that I would have in six weeks, received my speedometer and still had almost a hundred miles to go on my bike. I waited until I matched the mileage then swapped speedometers.

So if I jad, say, 50K miles on my current speedo and ordered a new unit I could have it set at 15k? No checks or verification of any sort?

Odometer fraud is illegal. It does not mean it cannot be done, but don't give people ideas here. We already ha ve enough ideas as a whole, us humans.

As said before, mileage is factory set.
From my experience, the dealer verifies the mileage of the bike the speedometer is ordered for. A few miles this way or that, they dont worry about but they dont play fast and loose with large discrepancies in mileage.
I dont know how this is done when a speedo is mail ordered.

With all this electronic crap will a bike even run if there is no speedo hooked up? Just curious.

LOL! If *I* thought of that, I'm sure there are plenty of others who have already acted on it...

Likewise, if you only have 2k miles you could have it set to 200k and brag to your buddies about what a hardcore rider you are
