deer, man that was close

Bike vs deer encounters are one adrenalin high to be avoided. Glad you were able to walk away from yours.
High number of deer are also a problem in this area. In the last 5 yrs or so I've hit two with 4 wheel transportation. We've also had a few incidents where deer were closer than made me comfortable.
I guess, if you don't hunt 'em maybe you should start. If you do hunt, thanks for helping make the riding safer.
For those of you who don't hunt: an extra side benefit to the hunting - they're reasonably easy to butcher yourself and they are tasty!

we got roos here...and if u had them in the USA im sure the peaceful little critters would of been hunted to extinction by now...the smaller ones like rabbits u can excellerate over..but we live with the danger and respect our roos...sometimes we lose but we know the risks and keep harmony

Kangaroos taste like ****, Koalas are way more tasty! lol
I smacked a deer after the fireworks, last night, here in south central Michigan. Had the whole clan in our minicage/van. I was doing 70 mph. This was the first deer I've ever hit in 30 years of driving in MI, pretty lucky - but I know I NEVER want to hit one while on the bike.
We have thousands of deer in our area. Its not uncommon to go out in the afternoon till dusk and see multiple herds of more than twenty/thirty deer off in the fields and meadows. Usually, I see over 200 deer in a 1-2 hour ride.
Inside the city limits of Jackson is a community park of around 600 acres with some wooded areas. We had marksmen come into the park last year and kill off at least 80 of them.
No wonder we have a helmet law here!

Recently had a deer (being chased by the neighbor's dog) running right along side me about 1/4 mile from home. Scared the you know what outta me too. We have some great riding here in the Inland Northwest, but it isn't without its hazards.

It's largely the same here. I hunt deer, I respect their ability to survive under a great variety of conditions, they're interesting to watch and I do like seeing them... just not on or near the road when I'm doing 70mph with the bike tween my legs...

Here in rural VA, the DOT has cut back on mowing the grass on the sides of the roads due to budget cuts. Makes it harder to see any animals on the side of the road. It also limits visibility around curves and pulling out from some stop signs.
