Default Is it okay to remove strut covers?

I am seriously considering removing the chrome strut covers from my rear fender and just leaving the little black strut exposed. I am wondering if this should affect the strength of the fender much for carrying a passenger. It does seem like they could be adding some rigidity to the fender. I have had them removed before and liked the look but didn't carry anyone on it at the time. There is a bracing that goes under the fender and attaches to the strut that I would think should still hold. Does anyone have any experience on this with a softail? Thanks guys.

I have a set of smaller Arlen Ness struts and I've had passengers on the back with no problems. I doubt that removing a chrome covering would make that much difference. I think it would clean up the look of your bike.

Great lookin' bike! Very good question. I've been thinking about having my struts pc'd black, but your way would be alot less. Keep us posted, and post pics.

The struts on street bobs also go much farther back on the fender. If these did that I wouldn't be concerned. That being said, I think I'm going for it.

Thanks for the compliment Spooner. It definitely gives a much more business-like look than the chrome covers.

The strut covers are just that "covers". They are not for support. Just dress up..
