Default 4th of july trip with thunderstorms ?

I dunno what to do, I was going to head out of the twin cities (Minnesota) and go to mount rushmore and badlands for 4th of july weekend, but now with thunderstorms everyday there, I dunno what to do ?

How much fun would rushmore and badlands really by on my bike in the rain ?

should I re-route to something less fun with good weather ? chicago ? .. . .

I just looked on weather.com, and it's showin just 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms. From my experience, that should just be a runnin forecast there...thunderstorms and hail storms can blow up in a skinny minute out there...but then, they usually blow on out just as quickly. If it were me, I'd take 40% scattered thunderstorms in the Black Hills of SD over sunny 'n clear in Chicago any day.

Your right, now that you mention it, I remember being in sturgis a few years ago, and BAM! a thunderstorm out of no where, wait it out a few hours and it was back to business as usuall...

I think I'm gonna just go with it and ride it out... I don't mind riding in the rain, I get a small rush from it acutally.. but just wandering all over the black hills on foot, is what I think won't be fun in the rain, but like you said, it could be gone in a minute... worth the risk.. .

+1 on the Badlands. When we were in Sturgis/Rapid City area a good storm did pop up, dumped it's rain and was gone in no time and the roads dry up pretty quick with all the heat that's in them. When lightening pops seek shelter.

High Road,

Recommend you listen to the Gump!

The Rally sounds more inviting than wet riding in the Badlands! (Unless you're tired of looking at hooters... )

Just MHO...

YMMV!

ALGONA !!!!

Do ya one betta:
http://www.abateiowafreedomrally.com/
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&e...,+iowa&spell=1

Can either run 169, GREAT ride, or take Slab 35 south into Iowa, then head west on 18 (I THINK!!)
Campgrounds are just east of Algona, and then north a mile and half. (ALL ASPHALT!!!!!!!!) 40 acres campground OWNED by ABATE of Iowa. Thus the "lax" rules, PRIVATE PROPERTY.

We WERE heading out at noon today, BUT Thanx to some 'additional' baggage, we are waiting til early morning. (Some can't get off today!!!)

If they're just isolated thunderstorms you can work your way around them or sit them out for a couple of hours till they pass. If it's frontal TS that's a whole different story and you might be waiting quite a while for that front to pass. But most summer time TS are isolated TS. I'd say go.
