The technical advantages of synthetic motor oils include:[citation needed]
  • Measurably better low and high temperature viscosity performance
  • Better chemical & shear stability
  • Decreased evaporative loss
  • Resistance to oxidation, thermal breakdown and oil sludge problems
  • Extended drain intervals with the environmental benefit of less oil waste.
  • Improved fuel economy in certain engine configurations.
  • Better lubrication on cold starts

If I use dino oil in my bike it's only good for one Parade ride. But syn 3 will last 5k.

Ive been around oil sampling and extreme fleet oil usage for over 140 million miles and dino has worked well for the investment. Have seen syn in transmissions as well as atf and there has been no advantage or increased failure whatso ever. So like I said its a religion not a science.

got to agree with bagmman1 on this, i was a manager at an oil change company and didn't see any substantial difference to justify the cost of synthetic over dyno
so i use valvoline 20 50 motorcycle oil in the streetbob change it every 3000 or so and i have no problems

dino oil

Motor oil derived from traditional hydrocarbon/crude-oil sources (decomposed dinosaurs and plant matter). Also often referred to as "mineral" based oil. This in in contrast to the new synthetic lubricants which have to be "manufactured" from various chemicals rather then just simply boiled off from a crude-oil source. Synthetics are seens as superior to dino oil since the manufacturing process is more controlled and may not require the polymer additives to achieve the same desirable lubricating properties. Synthetics are also more expensive then dino oil.
