Patriot Guard first mission
I went on my first Patriot Guard mission a couple of weeks ago. It was to welcome home a young Sergeant home to Fox River Grove, Illinois. I really didnt know what to expect, but it was a most amazing thing.
There was a group of supporters and we all held flags as he pulled into the parking lot we were gathered in. Everyone shook hands with him and thanked him for his service to our country. He was surprised and very proud to say the least. The local Fire Department, Police motor cops, about 50 bikes and various support cars escorted him to his home which was about 5 miles away. Both sides of the road had groups of people with flags and signs cheering and welcoming him home safely. I have to say it was a very moving experience, its hard to describe. I spoke with a couple of other guys that told me this was one of the good ones.
The tough ones are when they come home after giving all.

Congrats on your first mission! I've been to both the "good" and the "tough" missions. Either way, they're always very moving. Unfortunately, most missions are during the week while I'm at work.

Yes.....they are tough. You will not find a single activity in which you feel such pride and humility at the same time, as when you escort a fallen American Hero.
Glad to here about your first mission. Way to step up and support.

Congrats on your first mission. I've been on too many of the tough ones and probably not enough of the good ones. All are humbling experiences. Next week will be 3 years since my 1st mission, one I'll never forget.

thanks for stepping up and being counted! where it really counts..... welcoming home one of our heros. yeah, your first mission was one of the 'good' ones..... unfortunately, too many are the tough ones. but, those are just as necessary - maybe more. there is nothing so humbling, rewarding and heartbreaking as having a young wife thank you for being there for her soldier husband, who had just paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. do that without tearing up and you must have ice water in your veins.
