Red face Springer catches neutral alot, arrgh.

Just picked up a 02 springer and it seems to catch neutral alot. It seems like it dont do it as bad if you shift at low rpm. The shift linkage is not adjustable it was specially machined. I searched forum to no avail. Clutch seems a bit hard to pull in, nothing like my 07 Fat Boys clutch. Think I need to change out primary and adjust clutch or get an adjustable shift linkage or ?. THANKS in advance!!

Adjustable linkage is a good place to start with the shifting issue. Your shift throw may not be long enough to engage the gear fully which causes the gear to dissengage. AS far as your clutch, I would try lubing the cable first and see how it works out, if it still is hard to pull you obviously may need clutch work.

02 will clutch stiffer than 07 unless some type of advantage device is added. I didn't bother to name one because there are several out there and I have never used one. With that said it doesn't mean you don't need to lube the cable or adjust your clutch. My next question is are you soft shifting. I am a firm believer into making the shift. I want to hear a solid thunk and not a clatter of gears. Are the heim joints good on each end of your shifting rod? That is where the shifting rod adjustment should be.

Using the heel shifter?

If not can you pull the lever off the splined shaft and lower it a notch (toe shift)?

I had it happen a couple of times so I made myself use the heel shifter. It seems to be more solid with the weight of the boot .
