Hi, I have a weird question.


My friend picked up this HD Sundowner Sportster seat at a auction , but he didn't check to see what year it fit..because it said Sportster on the side and thought it would fit any Sportster... and then realized it doesn't fit his bike exactly and wants to resell it..however he is not sure which year it fits.

Doing a search I see that there are different model numbers for different years, XL, ect..

He is also questioning whether it is a "Real" HD product. It looks exactly like the Sundowner Photos online, and has the 'Sportster" logo embroidered on each side and looks brand new, barely any marks on it at all.

I was told that there is a model # on the bottom beginning with 5... but all I can see is a stamped # which is long, and above it, it says "Patent Pending"

Would anyone be able to take a photo of the bottom of their seat, or tell me if this is a real HD seat or where the actual model # is stamped on the seat?

I don't want to list it for sale and accidentally sell it to someone if it is not a real HD seat, and cant sell it because I don't know what model or year the seat is for.

What year is his bike? It looks identical to the two up seat I have for my '06 when the wife comes along...

 

I'm positive that that is the same seat I had on my 2000 XLC 1200. Sorry I have no pics of that bike up yet. I sold it a few years back, but I pic of it on my desk in front of me.

I don't own my Sportster any longer, so I can't get you any numbers from it.
But I can tell you that Sundowner seat in your pictures is a Harley Seat (or a very good copy).

It looks exactly like the one I had on my 2008 Sportster.

 

It will make a differnece if this is for a 4.5 gallon tank or a peanut tank.
