Default How do people come up the asking price for their HD?

If you go toCraigsList, there are many Harleys on the market. But most of them have really a ridiculous asking price.

It looks like they want to recovery all the money they spent on the bike since they bought it, taxes, useless mods or upgrades, insurance, gas, and etc.

With today's economy, you can get a HD at least $1000 below invoice, more if you drive a hard bargain. May be they just pretend selling it to please the wife.

am I missing something here.

True, that. When I was looking online for a bike, I found dealers with much better prices then some private sellers on craigslist and even e-bay. They'll get it, if they really want to sell. Sometimes, they are, for a 3-4 years old bike, over MSRP for a new one. What do they think? That people who actually plan on spending that kind of money don't shop around?

All this is posssibly true, I sold an '05 Fatty last Summer for 500 less than I bought it for not including the stage 1 I put into it. I sold it on Craig's list, but I wasn't hard up to sell it. I had to list it about three times and I got what I wanted out of it. There are a lot of bikes out there that people are asking huge dollars for, but it's up to you to find out the true value of a bike before you buy.

I think they just pull the price out of their *** in hopes that a buyer has their head up theirs. Make sense??

I found out what my KBB value was, did the "add-dedut" and posted my asking price based on that. Sold it relatively quickly.

maybe its because some have spent a lot of money on their bike, and are selling it as is..
I paid 18k for mine and have added a little over 7k in parts and motor work.

If U did that to your bike and wanted to sell it, do U think you'd want more than one that was stock, all else being =, cond, miles. looks.

now if U where buying one its easy to say, man I can get this XX bike for 3k less thats just like Urs. Of couse it could then cost you 5-7k to add on the extra new stuff now.

Or would U pay 2-3k more to get one already loaded up and not have to spend the 5-7k or more

Alway sell high, buy low, just can't make all happy.

If you aren't in a rush you will find someone who will pay. When I sold my 03, I put a price and didn't hear much from anyone for 2 months then some dude showed up, pulled out the cash and bought it without even starting it...
