Loud pipes or Quiet Pipes
Someone told me once that 10% of harley riders prefered quieter pipes. I run quiet pipes because the noise gives me a headache. I guess I'm in the 10 percent club.
Just wanted to run a pole to see if the 10% estimate was on target.
I'm not a great mathmatician (or speller) but I should be able to figure it out.
Hopefuly I can set up the pole right so loud pipers don't vote more than once. That goes for you quiet pipers also.

Man you are gonna open this can of worms AGAIN?
The answer depends on which side of the fence you are on.
Lets say you work nights, get home at 3am and try to go to sleep. 7am rolls around and the neighbor starts and keep reving his extra loud vehicle. Humm, it's not a bike, it's Honda Civic with one of those huge can type exhausts.
This should partially answer your question.
Harley's sound good with the right exhaust setup. And being extra loud doesn't always sound good.
For me, I like a good sounding, but louder than stock exhaust. Even louder than the Harley Scream'n Eagle exhaust. They aren't much lounder than stock anyway.
I have the V&H big radius 2 into 1 with a quiet baffle. Trust me, it's not quiet at all, but it is quiet compared to some I've heard. The difference, mine sounds good and can be quiet until I get on it.

I've had the louder pipes on my two previous pipes and got sick of the noise. Now I'm really enjoying the OEM exhaust the RK came with. Don't need earplugs, can hear myself think, etc.
Not saying I like whisper-quiet pipes like some of the metrics have, I do like the unique sound of the H-D but just not into LOUD anymore.
